Bengals finally have a plan to use Dax Hill’s elite skill set

The outstanding athlete from Michigan will get to work to his strengths.

When the Cincinnati Bengals drafted Dax Hill, they knew he was the kind of guy they wanted to on their team. They just weren’t sure exactly where he fit in.

Safety, boundary corner, even in the slot… they tried a bit of everything during Hill’s first three seasons.

The results were mixed, and it is clear that Hill still hasn’t come close to his tremendous potential as an elite athlete.

That is why, despite Hill’s modest numbers so far, the Bengals exercised their fifth-year option on him in late April.

And recently, CB coach Charles Burks hinted that Hill is going to be more productive this season.

“I’m going to put him in position to cover and blitz,” Burks told Dan Hoard. “Corner, nickel, whatever. He has an elite skill set, and we plan to use it.”

Hill, of course, is still on the rehab field, but he is getting closer to playing. It’ll be fun to see what he can do when given the green light to show his versatility, as he did as a Wolverine.

A more comfortable and productive Hill would be a great asset to a secondary that gave up far too many big plays, as would another pass rusher alongside Trey Hendrickson.

Listen to Kent Lee Platte, the founder of the RAS metric, talk about how Shemar Stewart compares to other elite athletes who lacked production in college.
