One of the big-ticket items that gets mentioned a lot when discussing the Ja’Marr Chase pick for the Cincinnati Bengals is the similarities Zac Taylor’s offense has to what was run at LSU.
And while it’s true the Bengals implemented plenty of concepts from LSU last year to make Joe Burrow’s life easier, Chase isn’t necessarily on board with there being a ton in common.
When asked if there are a lot of similar things, Chase told Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com the following:
“Not necessarily. We still have some of the same stuff concept-wise. I’m sure everyone does … There are the same routes that have the same names … (But) it’s totally different…Just from the splits. And I have to know a lot of terms … The way we call it, it’s all set up differently here… It’s coming. I’m thinking a lot faster.”
That said, Chase does go on to say there are some things he recognizes that will help him have a big impact early — but he won’t say what those are.
As always, Bengals fans will just have to wait and see what the Bengals offense will look like, LSU concepts or not. But the fact Chase lets all of the wideouts move around more to create mismatches is a pretty good sign.
