Joe Burrow, Zac Taylor explain Bengals sideline exchange

December 21, 2024 by Bengals Wire

Much has been said and written (and will continue to be) about the animated sideline discussion between Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and head coach Zac Taylor last week.

Before the Bengals play the Cleveland Browns in Week 16, both guys cleared the air further during weekly pressers.

Taylor had this to say about the encounter: “He’s got an edge to him that I balance. That edge makes him who he is. I don’t want to change who he is for one second… Love the edges about about him. It’s part of his competitive fire.”

Burrow? He confirmed what many internet lip readers suggested — he’s not happy with the team being 6-8 and he made sure to point that out to Taylor.

Overall, Burrow has said accountability over that record continues to be stressed across the entire building: “There’s definitely been discussions this week about what was good enough and what wasn’t… It wasn’t directed at Zac.”

So, it was a case of Taylor being Taylor…and Burrow being Burrow. The two contrasting approaches work, the cameras just caught it this time.

This quote from the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Kelsey Conway will indeed be revisited often in the coming weeks and months, too:

The urgency must be higher from ownership/personnel dept this offseason to get better in needed areas, not settle. It burned them this year in several spots pic.twitter.com/QchNInIlFM
