The brilliant analyst stepped out of retirement to offer us some season predictions.
This is a big year for Joe Burrow and Zac Taylor. If the team doesn’t take a major step forward, it could mean the end for the head coach. Fortunately, one of the smartest Bengals fans on the internet feels confident they’ll have a winning season.
Joe Goodberry recently came on our show to talk about the potential of the team in Burrow’s second year. “Year two for the quarterback, you should be competing for the playoffs,” he said. “If anyone mentions five wins, six wins, even seven wins, just log off right now. We should be talking eight, nine, ten, eleven [wins].”
He continued to say that this is because of the expedited timetable of quarterbacks now. Goodberry mentioned that, in the last six NFL Drafts, only one quarterback, Baker Mayfield, turned out to be good despite not hitting .500 in his second year.
So will the Bengals take a big step forward this year? Here is Goodberry’s prediction:
I think they are [good enough to win ten games]. I think Burrow will be good this year. I think he’ll be great, actually. He may be rusty the first few weeks, but the schedule’s easy enough in the first few weeks. They got a little gift there from the NFL scheduler. If they can come out of this even 2-2, and Burrow’s finally hitting his stride, Ja’Marr Chase is hitting his stride, I do think [they’ll win games]. I think this is an offense that can put up 30 points a game, and when you can do that, you can hang with anyone. You just got to hope the defense is opportunistic enough to steal a couple games.
