“Looking for Fairness” Star Wideout Could Entertain a Trade – Saints, Panthers, Commanders Emerge as Highest Bidders

jamarr chase fair contract

Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Jamarr Chase is searching for a fair contract but it shouldn’t be surprising if he entertains a trade this offseason. According to ESPN, Chase spoke to reporters about his future with the team explaining he doesn’t mean to put pressure on the Bengals but he’s not looking to relieve the roster of any money for wide receiver Tee Higgins. After having one of the most excelling seasons in his career despite missing the postseason, Chase could receive a huge payday as he enters the last year of his rookie contract. Chase may act like he’s not looking for “fairness” but many should expect him to request a lot of money this offseason.

Originally selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the former LSU product has been the subject of contract talks and rumors that he could head elsewhere if they prioritize Higgins over him. The Bengals will have a busy offseason worrying about the contracts of Chase, Higgins and defensive lineman Trey Hendrickson, it won’t be easy so there should be no surprise if Chase ends up requesting a trade if he doesn’t get a contract sooner rather than later. Earlier before the 2024 campaign, he was reluctant to the idea of helping the Bengals save some of the contract money for Higgins so it could very well come down to priorities.

However, there’s a saying in the National Football League, “Never Say Never.” In December, Chase did mention he doesn’t know what will happen so it’s like an airball but the Bengals should be able to settle the dust. Despite that, the Saints, Panthers and Commanders could be the three new bidders if he’s available for a trade.

Next Possible Trade Fits

New Orleans Saints

There’s no word on what will happen with Chris Olave next season after suffering a season-ending injury, but he should return regardless. Despite that, the Saints will need a new superstar wideout in the worst and general manager Mickey Loomis will need to get creative with their financial situation. No matter who the quarterback will be in the Fall, the Saints should put the offense in the best position to excel in the passing game. Chase is one of the most stellar starts in the past three league seasons, perhaps, the Saints could offer him a contract he won’t turn down to pair with Olave and Rashid Shaheed.

Carolina Panthers

It might be time for the Carolina Panthers to make the trade of the last century. With Adam Thielen likely to be cut, head coach Dave Canales should put quarterback Bryce Young in the best position to win football games. This will only happen if you get the best of the best and Chase may be that answer. Jalen Coker and Xavier Legette are both bright stars but finding a No. 1 receiver should be the priority for the Panthers if they want to see some improvement from the offense.

Washington Commanders

Meanwhile, there should be no surprise if the Commanders become a bidder in any receiver this offseason that could increase their chances of a Super Bowl. Quarterback Jayden Daniels looks like he will run the team for several years so it makes sense to pair him with the best weapon. While they made it to the NFC Championship Game, the Commanders could do better considering they didn’t have many weapons other than Terry McLaurin and tight end Zach Ertz.

Chase becoming a Commander could be a no-brainer move for the organization if the team wants to become contenders for years to come.
