“He’s gonna play here next year for us.”
When Trey Hendrickson, or any other member of the Cincinnati Bengals for that matter, speaks, rest assured that someone is listening. And that someone is head coach Zac Taylor.
Hendrickson’s agent, Harold Lewis, recently told Kelsey Conway of the Cincinnati Enquirer that Hendrickson was “hopeful” the team would give him a contract extension but has requested a trade if that did not happen.
“You let Trey voice his concerns,” Taylor said after hearing of Henderickson’s demands. “I’m listening. I love Trey. I’ve told Trey that. We want Trey to play here next year for us. He’s gonna play here next year for us. He’s gonna have success, and we’re gonna have success, and I’m excited for that.”
Taylor was listening last year when Hendrickson signed a one-year extension which featured $21 million in new money and a $5 million raise, and granted some additional security for a player who is instrumental to the team’s plans.
And Hendrickson responded with his best year yet, finishing second in the league with 17.5 sacks to go along with 43 tackles, three forced fumbles, and three passes defensed en route to his third straight Pro Bowl nod.
Taylor and the Bengals fully expect Henderickson to be a part of the team this year and hope for more of the same type of production.
