Williams was the first big man to commit under Mark Pope and discusses why he ended up at Kentucky.
Amari Williams was the first big man to transfer to the Kentucky Wildcats under new head coach Mark Pope, and with his size and physical presence, he will easily make an impact on the court.
Williams is a 6-foot-10, 265-pound senior, and in his last season at Drexel, he averaged 12.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.8 blocks, and 1.9 assists per game.
He was even the three-time CAA Defensive Player of the Year while at Drexel, and with all of his experience playing college basketball, he will make an immediate impact at Kentucky.
He recently joined SCO: The Podcast to talk about his visit and what made him decide to commit to Kentucky.
“Yeah, even on my visit, it was crazy just thinking like, ‘I am actually at Kentucky.’ Because it is like one of those schools you see on TV, and seeing all of the guys that came through the ranks of that school, so it is definitely a surreal feeling, and even when they posted when I signed, it didn’t feel quite real and just seeing it in my bio all the time, so I don’t know when it really will hit me, but it is definitely a surreal feeling,” Williams says on the podcast.
Kentucky is starting to build out its roster. It has guard Travis Perry, guard Collin Chandler, guard Lamont Butler, forward Andrew Carr, and center Brandon Garrison.
With how well Kentucky is building out its roster, if that continues, it could be ranked in the AP Poll before the start of next season.
