And a possible Sweet 16 duel with Duke.
Over at NCAA.com, Andy Katz just released his first Bracketology of the 2023-24 season.
For his debut NCAA Tournament bracket, he had the Kentucky Wildcats claiming the 2-seed in the East Region with a first-round matchup with Colgate.
If Kentucky were to advance, the winner of Oklahoma/Providence would be up next, which means a potential second straight tournament matchup with Bryce Hopkins.
Also in the region are the 3-seed Duke Blue Devils, so there’d be a great chance of a Kentucky – Duke Sweet 16 matchup.
The 1-seed of this region would be the Marquette Golden Eagles as a potential Elite Eight matchup.
The other 1-seeds in the projections are the UConn Huskies, Purdue Boilermakers, and Arizona Wildcats.
This projection would have the SEC tied with the Big Ten for the most selections of any conference. Here is how Katz’s SEC seeding projections turned out:
- Kentucky Wildcats (2)
- Tennessee Volunteers (3)
- Texas A&M Aggies (4)
- Alabama Crimson Tide (5)
- Arkansas Razorbacks (8)
- Auburn Tigers (8)
- Mississippi State Bulldogs (9)
- Florida Gators (11)
- Ole Miss Rebels (11)
Other teams that Kentucky has/will face this season include the 2-seed Kansas Jayhawks, 3-seed North Carolina Tar Heels, 4-seed Gonzaga Bulldogs, 5-seed Miami Hurricanes, and 14-seed UNC Wilmington Seahawks. Kentucky has already beaten Miami, lost to Kansas, plays UNC Wilmington this Saturday, and will face North Carolina in just over two weeks for the CBS Sports Classic.
