Looking for more positive buzz regarding Kentucky’s chances with 2022 five-star guard Shaedon Sharpe? Look no further than CBS Sports’ Eye on College Basketball podcast with Matt Norlander and Gary Parrish.
With eight consecutive Crystal Balls and three FutureCasts in favor of the Wildcats on 247Sports and Rivals, respectively, along with countless reports hinting at a commitment coming sooner rather than later for Sharpe – KSR was the first to report a potential August decision – it’s no secret that UK is in a strong position. To take it a step further, Norlander – CBS Sports’ senior college basketball analyst – is reporting that Kentucky is the “lock of locks” to land the five-star guard, who he believes could end up being the “best guy in the class.”
“I think him going to Kentucky is considered the lock of locks at this point,” Norlander said on the Eye on College Basketball podcast. “I think Shaedon Sharpe has a shot at being the best guy in the class.”
Sharpe, a 6-foot-4, 175-pound shooting guard out of London, Canada – he currently plays for Dream City Christian out of Glendale, AZ – is down to five final options, with Kentucky, Arizona, Kansas, Oklahoma State and the NBA G League remaining in contention.
In a recent interview with Travis Branham of 247Sports, Sharpe says he’s eyeing a “late August” decision.
“Just figure out which school best fits me and will take my game to the next level,” Sharpe said.
The five-star guard was named Offensive Player of the Session of the Nike EYBL regular season after averaging 21.6 points (46.2 3PT%, 48.0 FG%) 5.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists per contest. With an additional five games during the Peach Jam finals, Sharpe averaged 22.6 points overall and shot 36.1% from three.
The major UK target came in at No. 1 overall in On3’s player rankings for the class of 2022, with 247Sports and ESPN listing him at No. 6 overall and Rivals listing him at No. 11 overall. 247Sports, Rivals and ESPN have all hinted at significant leaps for Sharpe in their updated rankings to close out the summer.
