Some good insight to why the Cats lost their top receiver.
The Kentucky Wildcats football roster has seen some major turnover after a 4-8 season in 2024-25. With Mark Stoops back at the helm, the fanbase is nervous about the direction the 2025-26 season will go. Well it will be with almost an entirely new-look offense and retooled defense.
One of the departures from last season’s team that hits close to home for the BBN is wide receiver and Lexington native Dane Key.
Now at Nebraska, Key opened up with Pete Nakos of On3 about his decision to leave UK for the Cornhuskers.
“It was just the right time,” Key told Nakos. “It was just time for a change. I had three different offensive coordinators in three years. I just wanted some consistency. With three different offensive coordinators, I played with three different quarterbacks. It was just time for a change.”
Dylan Raiola also played a factor into that decision.
“He’s just the total quarterback,” Key said. “He’s a leader. Everybody respects him around the building, not only because he’s the quarterback. The kid’s got a great work ethic. He doesn’t stop working. That’s what you want out of your quarterback.”
The Cornhuskers had their first winning season since 2016 last year under Matt Rhule, but still only went 3-6 in conference. Can Nebraska turn it around? If so, Key will be a huge part of that.
