The former Kentucky star shared his thoughts on the last three coaches in Lexington.
The number of stars that have passed through Lexington in my lifetime, and Darius Miller is one of my favorites.
Miller was incredibly consistent and helped bring the 2012 National Championship back to Lexington as the sixth man.
The former Kentucky Wildcats standout recently shared his thoughts on the three former coaches in Lexington: Billy Gillispie, John Calipari, and Mark Pope.
Miller was asked by Kentucky Sports Radio how he felt about Pope
“I love Coach Pope, I do. I love his approach to the game, I think he’s a genius when it comes to basketball. With Coach Pope, I feel like it’s really technical. The game’s changed a lot since back in the day, now, you have analytics and a lot of different things that go into the game. I can just tell and see his approach, he treats it like a science. Everything is very intentional,” Miller said.
It’s interesting to hear the perspective of someone who played in Calipari’s system for the majority of their college career and then compare it to what they’ve seen from Pope’s first year in Lexington.
“There was a lot of freedom inside of Cal’s system, and that allowed you to see some of the greatness of John Wall, Eric Bledsoe, Jamal Murray, the different guys that could express themselves on the court. Coach Pope, everything is down to the minor detail, but it puts you in a good position to showcase your game inside of a structured environment, you know what I mean? Two different approaches, but I would enjoy playing for them both,” Miller stated.
The future is bright with Pope, and that is clear, but it is also fun to still think about the great times during the Calipari era.
Shoutout to Miller for giving such insightful thoughts about both of these eras in Kentucky.
