Miller left UK as one of the most decorated players of all time from the Bluegrass.
One of the most beloved Kentucky Wildcats of all time recently joined KSR to reflect on his hoops career.
Darius Miller is now retired and owns a youth basketball complex in Lexington. Miller ended his basketball career as one of the most decorated players in the history of hoops in the Commonwealth.
After leading Mason County to the KHSAA state championship in 2008, Miller was named Mr. Basketball before signing with Kentucky.
The Maysville native has a unique perspective, having played for both Billy Gillispie and John Calipari during his lengthy career at Kentucky. I think most would agree that Miller maximized every ounce of his talent and exceeded expectations at various levels.
Many people never gave him a chance to see the floor at a program like Kentucky. Miller would do much more than see the floor; his body of work and winning attributes led him all the way to being selected 46th in the 2012 NBA draft. He’d play six seasons in the league before going on to star in Germany.
Success came in bunches when Miller’s name was on a Kentucky roster. He’d play in two Final Fours and, of course, be crowned a national champion in 2012.
Miller says winning that for the fans was something that Kentucky team desperately wanted to achieve.
“All of us that’s come through here love Lexington, love the people in Kentucky, how you embrace us. It means a lot to us… so we wanted to do that for Lexington, too,” said Miller.
Fans would understandably love to see Miller participate in the upcoming TBT, but you can read in Drew Franklin’s article that he politely declined, acknowledging his competitive hoop days are over.
It came as no surprise that Miller mentioned beating Kansas for the 2012 title as one of his top memories at UK. He played 25 impactful minutes, scoring five points and grabbing six boards in New Orleans, cementing his legacy as one of the all-time great Kentucky Wildcats.
