As always, the NBA’s free agency has been insane. While there have been many eye-catching contracts signed, there are still several former Wildcats without a team — most notably DeMarcus Cousins.
Cousins has struggled with injuries the last few years. In January of 2018, he tore his left Achilles tendon while playing with the Pelicans. As a result, he missed the remainder of the season.
The big man then landed in San Francisco on a one-year contract with the Warriors. After nearly a year of recovery, he looked good. He played in 30 games, averaging 16.3 points and 8.2 rebounds.
His second major injury would come during the playoffs in Game 2 of the Warriors’ first-round series against the Clippers. While going for a steal in the first quarter, Boogie tore his left quad muscle. He did manage to return for the Finals but was still clearly hindered by his injuries.
So with his time in San Fran done, Boogie looked for a new home. He found one with the Lakers, who had just recently acquired Anthony Davis as well. And he looked good, too.
He focused heavily on his workouts to lose weight and give his lower body a little relief. He looked faster, sharper. His handles looked great. But once again, disaster was near.
He tore his ACL during one of those workouts after reportedly bumping knees with another player, ending his season before it even began.
In 2020, he was picked up by the Rockets, where he joined his former college bestie John Wall. Sadly, their NBA co-career was short — but at least he stayed healthy. Boogie spent only a season in Houston before being picked up by the Clippers for a 10-day contract, which eventually would be extended.
Boogie played well with the Clippers, specifically in their playoff run. In Game 5 against the Suns, he recorded a playoff career-high with 15 points in only 11 minutes of play, along with three assists, two rebounds, and a steal. Oh, and he gave us this beauty (that I have watched 1000 times).

Unfortunately, the Clippers chose not to re-sign Boogie, leaving him without a team still as free agency time dwindles.
He isn’t alone, either. A few other members of #LaFamilia are looking for a new familia, as well. Hamidou Diallo and Jarred Vanderbilt are also in limbo right now.
So in conclusion, someone please give our guy a chance. We’ve seen how good he can be when he’s healthy. Do it for the culture.
