Shay is currently on staff as an offensive analyst
With football season just around the corner, Mark Stoops recently lost a massive piece of his coaching staff.
Vince Marrow, Stoops’ right-hand man for years, has officially accepted a position with Jeff Brohm and the Louisville Cardinals.
Marrow will now help run the show with Kentucky’s biggest rival, and the Cats need a tight ends coach this summer.
Matt Jones of KSR reports that Derek Shay is the current favorite to land the open coaching position.
Hearing the name Derek Shay (current Offensive Analyst on staff) as favorite for the Tight End Coach job

Shay is on staff in Lexington right now, serving as an offensive assistant, so there is already familiarity with the position group and system.
Shay has been in Lexington for one season after being hired back in March of 2024.
The current favorite for the position served as the tight ends coach at Marshall before heading to Lexington to join Stoops.
Shay has also made pit stops at IMG Academy, LSU, and McNeese State.
Looks like this will be an in-house promotion after Stoops lost Marrow.
