Harmon will suit up for Dana Altman’s Ducks next season in the Pac-12, but that will only be the case if the former top-50 recruit does not make the jump to the professional ranks. Harmon confirmed with Travis Branham of 247 Sports that he plans to go through the entire draft process.
“I’m just going with the flow, taking it day by day and just enjoy life, enjoy the process and just have fun with it and wherever is thrown at me I will take it head on,” Harmon stated. “I would say it’s kind of up and down but I know if I don’t end up staying in the Draft then I will be in Eugene and that’s all that really matters.”
Harmon averaged 12.9 points and 3.4 rebounds last season playing for an Oklahoma Sooners squad that went 16-11 and lost to Gonzaga in the Round of 32. The 6-2 guard was an efficient scorer finishing the year shooting 56.9 percent from two while making a respectable 33 percent on 100 three-point attempts. Harmon’s father, Deon, spoke with KSR last week and emphasized the need to play point guard after being utilized off the ball by Lon Kruger.
“He’s a point guard, that’s the other thing,” said the elder Harmon. “We need him to be seen as a point guard. He was playing the two-guard, combo guard style and it was hard to get assists when he’s not the point guard. We do want him in the point guard role, and that doesn’t have to be 100 percent of the time because we like to run. He’s an open floor player.”
Earlier this week, Harmon’s father told KSR that Kentucky had not been in contact, so things would appear that John Calipari is deciding to go in another direction. We can all take Harmon and Mac McClung off the recruiting boards after each removed their names from the portal this week.
The search continues as Kentucky looks to construct its perimeter roster for next season.
