Former Kentucky tennis star Gabriel Diallo has turned pro and is looking to make a name for himself in the professional tennis world. You do that my winning on the biggest stages at the biggest events. That’s exactly what happened for the young pro on Thursday.

Diallo, 23, claimed his first victory at Wimbledon by defeating Germany’s Daniel Altmaier (6-1, 6-2, 6-4).

Gabriel Diallo jumped out to an early lead in the match and put it on cruise control early. Diallo finished the win with seven aces.

The Canadian has now won the opening round in each of his last four Grand Slam appearances. Diallo currently ranks No. 40 overall. Next up is a second-round match on Wednesday for Diallo. The former Kentucky All-American will look to follow up Monday’s big victory with another at Wimbledon as the young player continues to shine in the professional tennis arena.

Back in June, Diallo won his first-ever ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) title with a victory over Belgium’s Zizou Bergs at the Libema Open in the Netherlands. The Kentucky product took down Bergs by a count of 7-5, 7-6 (8). The 6-foot-8 tennis pro trailed in the second set 6-4 before pulling off an impressive comeback to lock up the title. He became the first-ever Canadian to win this event.

Now Gabriel Diallo will attempt to make some more noise at Wimbledon.
