With Amoore just finishing her collegiate career and getting drafted, she will have to fight through some adversity to get back on the court after the injury.
Just weeks after being selected sixth overall in the 2025 WNBA Draft, former Kentucky Wildcats star Georgia Amoore has suffered a setback in her professional career. The Washington Mystics announced Tuesday that the rookie guard sustained a right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during team practice.
23-year-old Amoore went down during Tuesday’s workout—just the team’s second official practice of the season following Media Day on Monday. While the Mystics confirmed the ACL injury in a press release, they did not specify the severity or whether the ligament was fully or partially torn.
“Amoore and the team will examine treatment and rehabilitation options and provide an update as appropriate,” the team wrote.
The injury casts doubt on Amoore’s availability for the upcoming season, a disappointing development for both the franchise and fans who had high hopes for the fiery Australian point guard. Still, the lack of clarity in the report leaves a small window of hope that the injury may not be season-ending. Should it be more serious, Amoore would have nearly a full year to recover before next year’s preseason.
Amoore had a stellar 2024–25 campaign at Kentucky, averaging 19.6 points and 6.9 assists per game while leading the Wildcats to their first NCAA Tournament win since 2021. She earned consensus All-American honors and became Kentucky’s first WNBA first-round pick since Rhyne Howard in 2022.
More updates are expected as the Mystics further evaluate the injury.
