Four-star class of 2026 prospect Davion Adkins updates recruitment

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA — Four-star class of 2026 prospect Davion Adkins plays with raw, unfiltered emotion, and he showed it at Adidas 3SSB Session 2.

“As you saw, I got hit,” Adkins told ZAGSBLOG after a 69-57 win over Team Lillard. “And I knew once I got mad, my team energy’s going to pick up. And then I got that dunk. I did get a tech, but we all knew that the job was done because the energy that I got from that dunk — it helped me the whole game. So once that happened, we just ran around.”

The 6-foot-9 big man is a high flyer. He’s averaged 12.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game for Southern Assault as they’ve gone 4-4.

“My hops,” Adkins said of what makes him special. “My coach said at the beginning of the game you don’t want to let the other big dude get a step ahead of you. At the beginning of the game I let him get a step ahead of me, and I blocked his shot. I knew it was good from there.”

Adkins’ athletic ability, combined with his skill and size, has garnered him attention from multiple college coaches this summer. Indiana’s Darian DeVries, Oklahoma State’s Steve Lutz, Texas’ Sean Miller, Texas Tech’s Grant McCasland and Kentucky assistant coach Mikhail McLean came to watch him play at 3SSB. While he has yet to take any visits yet, he’s looking at Indiana, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas Tech and SMU for potential visits in the fall.

Here’s how Adkins broke down his recruitment process thus far:

Indiana: “Coach [Kenny] Johnson hit me up. I’ve always known they’re a good school. That’s a good Big 10 school. I don’t know a lot about it, but when I take my visit I want to learn a lot more.”

Kentucky: “They’re a good program. I watch a lot of SEC games, so I watch a lot of Kentucky. And just the way they play, I like that. The way they let their power forward and center pop out and shoot threes, I like that. So yeah, good school.”

Oklahoma State: “Most of the coaching staff is texting me. They’re all pretty cool. I like Oklahoma State, but got to keep the options open.”

SMU: “Coach Andy [Enfield], I saw him at USC before he went to SMU. USC was a pretty good school, and he came to SMU. He offered me. And I just liked everything he’s talked about. He wants to win. He can build a lot of guys at my position, and I like that about him.”

Texas: “Yeah, the new staff reached out to me. I don’t know a lot about coach [Sean] Miller yet, but I’d like to get to know him a lot because he seems like he wants to win a national championship and play hard. And I like coaches that want to play hard and get through it.”

Texas Tech: “That’s a great school. My former teammate JT Toppin went there. I like how I see him developing and keep going.”

Adkins hopes to show coaches that he has the mentality to make it at the next level.

“That I’m a dog,” he said. “I’m not going to give up. I play through everything, play through every hit, every contact, every little hit, every little bit of adversity and just keep playing.”

As for what he is looking for from programs, Adkins focus is on improving his game.

“I just want the development, what’s going on there,” he said. “The nutrition plans and how they handle players’ mental health.”

Adkins is the No. 26 player in the 2026 recruiting class, according to 247Sports. His favorite NBA player is Anthony Edwards the toughest player he’s had to guard is Derik Queen. His No. 1 hobby outside of basketball is lifting.
