Who saw this coming?
Throw it back to the late 1990s when Hal Mumme was mid-40s and the head football coach of the Kentucky Wildcats and eventual No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick Tim Couch.
Mumme spent four seasons with the Wildcats and resigned in 2001 after several NCAA violations that included paying athletes. He finished with a 20-26 record overall and lost both of his bowl game appearances.
He went on to make several stops over the next two decades, never staying with one program for more than four seasons.
Mumme last worked the sideline in 2021 when he was the head coach for TSL Linemen, a professional football development that operated during the springtime.
Fast-forward to today, and Mumme is now the offensive coordinator for Division III school Centenary, located in Shreveport, Louisiana.
The Gentlemen were 4-6 last season under first-year head coach Byron Dawson, scoring over 30 points just three times and 20 points or less five times.
Mumme’s return to college football is an interesting one, but nonetheless, Centenary Gentleman fans should at least be intrigued by what his Air Raid offense can do for their program.
