Chan Kim, a 35-year-old from Arizona State University by way of Suwon, South Korea, lit up Hurstbourne Country Club in the opening round of the ISCO Championship earlier today. The TOUR’s annual stop in Kentucky debuted in Louisville this week, and Chan is your leader in the clubhouse with a bogey-free 9-under 61 as the first round’s television coverage begins. It’s a career low score for Chan.

To see the rest of the opening round action at Hurstbourne, you can watch the TV broadcast on Golf Channel from 4-7 p.m. Who knows, you could see familiar Louisville faces in the gallery or become a new fan of an up-and-coming golfer seizing the opportunity at the ISCO Championship. Other ISCO Championship Round 1 notes
— First and foremost, Louisville Metro did not arrest any players at the entrance to the course, so that’s good.
— In case you’re new to the ISCO, it is a PGA TOUR alternate event, formerly known as the Barbasol Championship in Lexington, played concurrently with the Scottish Open. It carries a $4 million purse with 300 FedEx points and an automatic bid into next week’s Open Championship to the winner.
— PGA star Justin Thomas, a Louisville native, is playing in the higher-stakes Scottish Open this weekend, but he sent a message from Scotland to his fellow Saint X Tigers in the field.
— Looking at the midday ISCO leaderboard, Kim currently has a four-shot lead on the field, with Callum Shinkwin and Thomas Rosenmueller behind him in second with 65s. Four players are tied at 4-under, and one, Peter Mainati, still has nine holes to play.
— BBN’s Josh Teater finished with a 2-under 68, currently good enough for T17 at the time of writing. Teater bogeyed the 18th hole or he’d be inside the top 10. The Kentucky native is playing in his eighth ISCO Championship. He scored under par in Round 1 of all eight starts.
— Former Kentucky Wildcat and five-time PGA TOUR winner J.B. Holmes was 2-over through five holes in his ISCO Championship debut, playing the back nine first. Holmes bogeyed 12 and 14 before a birdie on 16. Holmes is playing in his first PGA event since October.
— I hope you didn’t have Brandon Wu in your ISCO Championship office pool. The two-time PGA runner-up shot a 15-over 85 in his first round, teeing off in the second group off the first hole at 6:56 a.m. this morning. A Brandon Wu comeback is unlikely at this point.
KSR will keep a watchful eye on the ISCO fun and keep you informed from time to time. Go Teater.
