Jason Crowe Scores 45 Points in the Drew League as Recruitment Takes Surprising Turn

The Fourth of July holiday weekend has served as a great time for Big Blue Nation to get more acquainted with Jason Crowe.

As fireworks were flying Friday night, his father told Rivals’ Joe Tipton that he will announce his college decision on July 18. To make matters more intriguing, he does not have a set list of finalists. Even so, Kentucky was considered the frontrunner, however, it’s far from a done deal.

A 6-foot-3 guard from Southern California, he is the No. 6 overall player in the 2026 Rivals Industry Ranking. Kentucky, Missouri, USC, Alabama, Washington, Texas, Baylor, UCLA, and Arkansas are all actively recruiting the five-star prospect.

Crowe has looked the part as a five-star talent. So far on the EYBL circuit, he’s averaging 23.8 points per game. Before summer hoops pick back up, he’s playing pick-up in one of the most competitive pro-am circuits in the country.

The Drew League has hosted a summer league in Southern California since 1973. It features players from all walks of life. Jamal Crawford was a Drew League legend during his time in the NBA. LeBron James also spent some time playing a few games in the league.

It wasn’t an NBA player who made headlines this week in the Drew League. Jason Crowe is only 16 years old, but you couldn’t tell the way he carved up grown men, scoring 45 points in the pro-am league.

He’s not the first teenager to play well against grown men. What makes it even more impressive is that he did it in a variety of ways. The lefty was driving down the lane and dunking, or finishing at the rim with his off-hand. When they took away a drive to the lane, Crowe stepped back to knock down threes.

Crowe’s Close Relationship with a Kentucky Assistant

Mark Pope has put Kentucky in contention for pretty much every five-star guard in this class. He appears to have an ace in the hole for this recruitment. UK assistant Jason Hart is one of Jason Crowe Sr.’s best friends. The young point guard considers Hart a part of his extended family.

“I mean, it’s definitely a thing I have to talk about, obviously,” Crowe Jr. told KSR in a one-on-one conversation at USA U19 Training Camp in Colorado Springs. “Everybody says that’s a big part — which it is. It plays a big part on where I’m going and stuff like that. But I still give other teams fair play.

“I can’t just go there because that’s family, I have to be fair to other coaches that are recruiting me and pick their brain, see where everybody is and find the best fit for me.”

A Surprising Development

A few minutes before this post went live, we received a surprising development from Joe Tipton. Kentucky was considered the frontrunner for Crowe. Those winds have changed.

“However, according to multiple sources, one school has quietly started gaining serious momentum — Missouri,” writes Tipton. “The Tigers have discreetly entered the mix and appear to be the team to beat as we enter the final stretch of this recruitment.”

Following the last 48 hours, you can expect there to be plenty of drama leading into Crowe’s final decision on July 18.
