Former Lexington standout returns home to begin his coaching journey.

The Kentucky Wildcats are adding a familiar face to the sidelines for the 2025-26 college basketball season, as former Frederick Douglass High School star Jaylan Green joins the program as a graduate assistant, according to his Twitter.

Green, a Lexington native, brings a deep local connection and solid playing experience to the role. After starring at Frederick Douglass, where he averaged 16.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game as a senior and earned numerous postseason honors, Green stayed close to home to begin his collegiate career at Transylvania University.

During his time at Transy, Green developed into one of the top players in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC). He was a First-Team All-Conference selection in both 2022-23 and 2023-24, averaging 17.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, and leading the team in scoring, three-point shooting, and steals as a senior.

After three seasons at Transy, Green transferred to Ohio Dominican University to pursue a Master’s Degree in Data Analytics while continuing his basketball career. In his final collegiate season, he played in 28 games, averaging 5.8 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per contest in 16.1 minutes per game.

Now, he returns to Lexington, trading in his jersey for a clipboard as he begins the next phase of his basketball journey. His addition further emphasizes Pope’s commitment to developing young coaches with Kentucky ties — and Green’s story, from high school standout to staff member in Rupp Arena, is one the Big Blue Nation can proudly support.
