I am sure I can speak for a lot of Big Blue Nation when I say that watching John Wall in Lexington was one of my favorite years as a Kentucky Wildcats fan.
Wall was one of the first superstars to arrive in Lexington with John Calipari and helped bring instant success to the program during his time.
After Calipari left Lexington for Arkansas, there was an unsettling divide among former Kentucky players with their loyalty to the program or the head coach.
One name that has not switched up on the University of Kentucky is John Wall himself…
Wall recently chatted with Matt Jones of KSR about his support for new head coach Mark Pope and the new direction of the Kentucky program and showed his support.
“I’m happy for Mark Pope. I got an opportunity to meet him this past summer, or last summer, in Indiana when it was an EYBL tournament going on. Talked to him for a little bit. He got off to a hot start, I think a couple of injuries kind of slowed their team down. But for your first year to go that far that’s great. They got a lot of great pieces coming in this year with some good pieces coming back,” Wall told Jones.
Wall continued with the most important comments about his support for the university and basketball program, “Kentucky’s always home for me. There’s always love. That’s the school I went to, the jersey I put on. They gave me the opportunity to reach one of my goals and dreams in life to play college basketball, and play on one of the biggest levels for one of the best schools in the country, and a good opportunity to go to the league. So yeah, I’m definitely coming back.”
Wall also said that Pope reached out to him about coming back to Lexington during the summer and work out with the guys on the current roster. He plans to find the time.
It is clear Wall feels the love from the state of Kentucky and is proud to be a Wildcat.
