Williams played a key role in helping Kentucky land point guard Jaland Lowe, his former AAU teammate.
Kam Williams was one of the most coveted shooters in the transfer portal this offseason, and it didn’t take long for Kentucky’s Mark Pope to add him to the team.
The 6-foot-8, 190-pound forward made an immediate impact at Tulane as a freshman, averaging 9.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. He shot a highly efficient 48.5% from the field and a sharp 41.2% from three, knocking down nearly two triples per game.
While Pope brought in an impressive haul of talent, one of the most important additions might’ve come thanks to Williams himself. The Lafayette, Louisiana native played AAU basketball with Houston Hoops, the same program that produced Pitt transfer point guard Jaland Lowe.
When Lowe hit the portal, Williams was quick to help connect the dots.
“After I saw that they were kind of interested in him, I hit him up and I was like, ‘Might as well come over here,’” Williams says. “We needed a (point guard) because Lamont [Butler] was leaving, and he’s a great PG, so it felt like that was probably the person I reached out to first.”
Lowe is now heavily favored to be Kentucky’s starting point guard throughout the 2025-26 season, while Williams figures to have a major role alongside the former All-ACC standout.
