Gilbert is staying in the Bluegrass.
A once-promising Kentucky Wildcats signee is now playing for the school’s biggest rival.
On Wednesday, former Kentucky defensive lineman Kendrick Gilbert committed to the Louisville Cardinals.
Gilbert announced the news in an Instagram post. He will have three years of eligibility remaining
The 6-foot-5, 275-pound Gilbert was rated a 4-star recruit by Rivals and the No. 12 defensive lineman in the country in the class of 2023. LSU, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Missouri, Nebraska, Penn State, and North Carolina were among his other scholarship offers.
This past season, Gilbert appeared in eight games while notching five total tackles and a tackle for loss.
Kentucky still has a fairly deep defensive line, so Gilbert would have had a tough time earning significant playing time this year. However, Kentucky does have three seniors who will be out of eligibility after 2025, so Gilbert could have potentially taken on a major role in 2026 had he continued to develop.
