Kentucky assistant Alvin Brooks III provided an update on Tuesday with Otega Oweh still testing the waters of the NBA.
As college basketball rosters continue to take shape ahead of the 2025–26 season, Kentucky fans received a small update on standout guard Otega Oweh.
During a recent Q&A on Instagram, assistant coach Alvin Brooks III was asked about the chances of Oweh returning to Lexington. His response didn’t confirm a decision but offered clarity on where Oweh’s focus currently lies.
“He’s focused on NBA preparation right now,” Brooks said. “We’re supporting him every way we can.”
Oweh, a 6-foot-5 rising senior, declared for the NBA Draft earlier this offseason while preserving his college eligibility. He averaged 16.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game last season and quickly became one of Kentucky’s top two-way players. His explosive athleticism and defensive tenacity have made him a name to watch — even if he’s not yet a lock for the draft.
Players have until May 29 to withdraw and return to college. Oweh’s decision to test the waters follows a growing trend among underclassmen aiming to gain feedback from NBA personnel before making a final call.
Whether Oweh stays in the draft or comes back to Lexington, the Wildcats appear ready for either outcome. For now, fans will have to wait as Oweh weighs his options and works toward his basketball future.
If Oweh returns, Kentucky will have one of the best backcourts in the nation with Jaland Lowe, Denzel Aberdeen, and Oweh. With that three-headed monster, it will be tough for opponents to compete against those three.
