Kentucky head coach Mark Pope was impressed after seeing Brown play in person.

The high school recruiting list continues to grow with the Mark Pope era in full swing.

One of the newest names on the Kentucky Wildcats’ radar is 5-star guard Mikel Brown Jr. after Pope saw him play in person during the Adidas 3SSB circuit in Bryan, Texas.

The Overtime Elite star was stellar during play in Texas and impressed numerous Kentucky coaches.

Pope contacted Brown over the phone after seeing him play, according to Kentucky Sports Radio’s Jacob Polacheck.

The 6-foot-2 guard has already brought in a lot of SEC interest with offers from Auburn, Tennessee, and Alabama. Brown has also visited Ole Miss and is currently ranked 15th overall in 2025 via 247 Sports Composite.

With the recent coaching change in Lexington, Kentucky is a bit behind in high school recruiting, but Pope is doing a good job of casting a wide net for numerous talented players still uncommitted.

When asked about Mark Pope, Brown said this about watching Pope’s BYU team.

“They led the country in 3-point percentage and shooting. Watching them heading into March Madness, they played really good basketball and played really well together.”

If Pope can bring in a future star like Brown, that would be a massive boost to Kentucky’s class of 2025.
