Kentucky Football extends 4 assistant coaches

Looks like the WR room will be the only position with a new coach this offseason.

There will not be as much turnover as previously thought for the Kentucky Wildcats football program this offseason.

According to the office of UK Legal Counsel, Mark Stoops and the program will be bringing back four assistant coaches for the 2024-25 season next fall.

Those coaches are offensive line coach Zach Yenser, defensive line coach Anwar Stewart, linebackers coach Mike Stoops, and safeties coach Frank Buffano.

This news comes after the Cats parted ways with wide receivers coach Scott Woodward a few weeks back.

Yenser will now enter his third season in Lexington as he signed a new one-year deal with the same salary at $650,000. Although the first year was not pretty for Yenser’s group, the unit did take a step forward as a whole this past season. If the group can continue to progress the continuity in the room could pay off, and see the Big Blue Wall start to return to its previous dominance.

For Stewart, Stoops, and Buffano, they each signed new two-year deals to keep them here through the 2025-26 season, with each coach also earning a slight pay increase.

The star of this group has obviously been the depth and balance that Stewart has been able to have on the defensive line. With Deone Walker a potential first-round pick in next year’s NFL Draft, keeping the coach who has transformed him in college seems to be the right decision.

We heard Kentucky wanted to get back to the culture that brought the program to the point it is now. It seems retaining these coaches is further proof of that point.
