Jones would provide major help at a position of need.
It’s no secret the Kentucky Wildcats football team has some concerns at linebacker for this upcoming season.
Well, there’s now a potential option emerging via the transfer portal.
Jones was listed in the portal late Thursday afternoon, per a source. But upon entry a source with knowledge of the situation indicated they expect three teams to enter the mix: South Carolina, Kentucky and Kansas.
A two-year starter for Ole Miss, Jones was the team’s leading tackler last season with 75 stops. In 2019, he posted 71 tackles, 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.
Originally from Tuscaloosa (AL), Jones was considered a three-star prospect, according to 247 Sports Composite, and was considered a top-50 linebacker in the class of 2018.
For the Wildcats, if they make a serious push, they could be right at the top of Jones’ list especially with the connection to Jon Sumrall, who coached Jones for one season before he left to come to Lexington.
Adding Jones would also allow highly-ranked recruit Trevin Wallace the ability to get up to speed at his own pace, instead of being thrown in to be an immediate impact player at the “mike” linebacker position.
