For the third time in program history, Kentucky Men’s Soccer is headed to the Sweet 16.
Yesterday, the No. 24 Cats (12-4-2) secured their spot with a 2-0 shutout of No. 11 New Hampshire at Bryan Park Soccer Complex in Greensboro, North Carolina. They’ll play No. 4 Wake Forest (12-2-2) Thursday at 9 p.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina.
Senior team captain Bailey Rouse (35′) and freshman Jalen Bigby (85′) scored Kentucky’s goals vs. New Hampshire, while three-time All-Conference USA goalkeeper Enrique Facusse made three saves for his first shutout of the season. Facusse missed most of his senior season training with the Honduras national under-23 football team as it qualified for the upcoming 2020 Summer Olympics. Bigby’s goal was the first of his Kentucky career.
Kentucky has been to the Sweet 16 twice before, in 2000 and 2018, the latter resulting in the program’s first national quarterfinal appearance. Check out the highlights below, along with the Sweet 16 bracket.
