Kentucky played in this bowl back in 2019 when it was still the Belk Bowl.
It would appear the Kentucky Wildcats are set to have a bowl game in Charlotte for the second time since 2019.
In recent weeks, many college football bowl projections have had Kentucky landing in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, formerly the Belk Bowl, which the Cats played in during the 2019 season. That game saw Kentucky come from behind in the final seconds to pull off a 37-30 win over Virginia Tech. That 2019 game was actually the final year it was called the Belk Bowl before being rebranded, though it’s still an ACC vs. SEC affiliated bowl.
Now, according to KSR’s Matt Jones, Kentucky is just about locked into the Mayo Bowl, and it could be a rematch with the Hokies, or a hardwood-flavored matchup with the Duke Blue Devils.
The game is sponsored by Duke’s Mayonnaise, not Duke University, just to be clear.

So, there you have it. If you’re hoping to follow the Cats to their postseason game, plan on making a trip to Charlotte on December 27th at Bank of America Stadium, home of the Carolina Panthers. Game time is 5:30 pm ET on ESPN.
When the Cats last played in Charlotte, they needed yet another legendary effort out of Lynn Bowden, who capped off his Paul Hornung Award season with a game-winning TD pass to Josh Ali to take down Hendon Hooker and the Hokies.
And yes, we’re definitely including highlights of that game below.
