Kentucky Softball Run-Ruled in First Round of SEC Tournament

May 7, 2025 by Kentucky Sports Radio

Kentucky Softball - Morgan Simmons, UK Athletics

In the first game of the postseason for Kentucky softball, the ‘Cats were run-ruled 8-0 in five innings against Georgia. The loss knocks them out of the SEC Tournament, and UK will now have to wait to see their NCAA Tournament fate. The Selection Show is this Sunday.

Bad From The Start

Kentucky came into the SEC Tournament trying to garner some momentum before the NCAA Tournament. Unfortunately, Tuesday’s opener took an early turn that the Wildcats could not battle back from.

Carson Fall got the start on the mound against Georgia, but it did not last long for the freshman. Fall gave up three earned runs in the first inning and did not come up with a single out.

From the jump, Kentucky was in a deficit that they hoped could be erased. The Wildcats found a bit of momentum with Sarah Haendiges, who replaced Fall on the mound.

Haendiges went three innings without allowing a run, and really slowed down the Bulldogs’ offense.

A Terrible Fourth Inning

The fourth inning was where things took a turn for the worse. Georgia scored five runs in that inning off two hits and a very costly error from Kentucky.

The ‘Cats had two outs with no runs given up before the damage hit so quickly. It looked like they would get the last out they needed, but a dropped fly ball in the infield allowed Georgia to score more runs to put them over the run-rule limit.

Last Chance

Kentucky had a chance in the top of the fifth to extend the game, but came up short. Karissa Hamilton started the inning by getting on base after being hit by a pitch.

Then, Emory Donaldson had a fantastic battle with the Georgia pitcher. Donaldson fouled off 11 pitches in the at-bat before earning herself a walk.

The Wildcats now had two runners on with no outs and the top of the batting order up. Not one of the top three hitters for Kentucky was able to move the runners or get on base, ending the game on a run-rule.
