The Suns are getting an elite 3-point shooter to pair with Devin Booker.
With the No. 41 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, the Phoenix Suns have selected Kentucky Wildcats shooting guard Koby Brea. That means the former Cat will team up with Devin Booker in the Valley of the Sun. It’s also Mark Pope’s first draft pick as a college head coach.
The Golden State Warriors held the pick but sent it to Phoenix in a previously made trade.
Brea was one of the country’s best shooters the last two seasons, including this past season at Kentucky. In the season prior, when he was with the Dayton Flyers, Brea led the country in 3-point field goal percentage.
Kentucky head coach Mark Pope built his first roster in Lexington with players who were veterans and leaders, and each individual player brought versatility to Kentucky’s roster.
Brea, along with Fairleigh Dickinson transfer Ansley Almonor, gave the Wildcats a lethal 3-point shooting dimension. He had seven games last season with 20+ points, including 23 points against Illinois in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. That game was one of 16 games where Brea made three+ 3-point shots, which included a memorable seven 3-pointers in a win over eventual national champion Florida on January 4th.
Durability is also now a strength of Brea’s, as he played 30+ minutes in 16 games this past season. That includes 13 times in his last 14 games of the season.
An elite stroke from 3-point range, a knack for scoring, and durability. That’s what (insert team) will be getting from Brea. They will benefit heavily from depth and versatility perspectives.
