Koby Brea’s NBA Draft Combine measurements similar to other elite shooters

Kentucky guard Koby Brea shares one key physical trait with some of the world’s best shooters.

When judging players as potential NBA prospects, a long wingspan is often required to make it in the league. That’s even more true with elite defenders, rim protectors, highlight reel dunkers, etc. But when it comes to excellent outside shooting, it’s not nearly as much of a necessity. And that’s great news for Brea.

According to Jon Chepkevich of DraftExpress, Brea’s measurements from the 2025 NBA Draft Combine — happening this week in Chicago — show he has a shorter wingspan (6-foot-5.25) compared to his barefoot height (6-foot-5.75). Measurements for Kentucky guard turned NBA sharpshooter, Tyler Herro, were in a similar boat when he went through the Combine back in 2019: a 6-foot-4.5 barefoot height with a 6-foot-3.25 wingspan. It’s worked out well for Herro, coming off his first All-Star selection, so far in his professional career.

Chepkevich also reports that Brea checked in at 201.8 pounds with a standing reach of 8-foot-5. When Brea arrived at UK last summer, he was officially listed at 6-foot-7, 215 pounds. With shoes on, Brea is probably right at the 6-foot-7 mark. But he apparently shed some pounds over the course of the last year.

A smaller wingspan didn’t impact Brea’s shooting ability in college; who’s to say it will in the NBA? The 23-year-old shot 43.5 percent from deep on 5.9 attempts per game during the 2024-25 season, his lone year at Kentucky. But he was just as elite across his four years at Dayton, including a 49.8 percent clip from deep in 2023-24. Overall, Brea shot 43.4 percent (317-730) from beyond the arc throughout his five-year college career.

The latest NBA Mock Drafts don’t seem concerned with Brea’s wingspan, either. After Monday night’s Lottery, several updated mocks were immediately released. The likes of ESPN, The Athletic, and Yahoo! Sports all have Brea as a second-round pick in next month’s draft. Yahoo! Sports even has Brea slotted at 34th overall to the Charlotte Hornets.

We’ll have the chance to watch Brea work when he takes the floor on Wednesday afternoon for 5-on-5 scrimmages at the Combine. Live coverage of the day’s events will be available on the ESPN app. The 2025 NBA Draft is scheduled for June 25-26 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.
