Kentucky’s alumni squad dominates from start to finish in their TBT opener at Memorial Coliseum.
The Kentucky alumni squad, La Familia, wasted no time reminding fans why they’re the top seed in the Lexington Regional of The Basketball Tournament. Behind a dominant performance from former Kentucky Wildcats, La Familia rolled past Stroh’s Squad in a 105 to 52 blowout Friday night at Memorial Coliseum.
The starting lineup for La Familia featured familiar faces: Willie Cauley-Stein, Archie Goodwin, Doron Lamb, Andrew Harrison, and Kerem Kanter, who played for La Familia last year. They set the tone early, opening the game with a 24-11 lead after the first quarter.
By halftime, La Familia had built a 44-29 advantage, shooting 48.4% from the field compared to just 30.6% for Stroh’s Squad.
Archie Goodwin led all scorers at the half with 10 points, while Andrew Harrison chipped in early with a strong first quarter. As the game wore on, La Familia’s depth, experience, and chemistry proved too much for the underwhelming Stroh’s Squad roster,r which is a group that featured just one actual Bowling Green alum.
By the third quarter, the lead ballooned to 78-41. Kentucky fans roared as the Elam Ending was triggered at 105 points, and La Familia wasted no time closing the door.
The final score? A lopsided 105-52 win, with Ansley Almonor delivering the Elam Ending dagger.
Next up: La Familia will face War Ready, Auburn’s alumni squad, in the Round of 32 on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. ET. If Friday’s performance was any indication, they’re ready for another deep run in TBT.
