The morning after he turned in his final college assignment, UK Basketball walk-on Riley Welch had a conversation with Matt Jones and the KSR radio show about Welch’s two seasons with the Wildcats.
Welch joined the show to share his memories and firsthand account of Kentucky Basketball from 2019-2021, two of the hardest years in the program’s history with the abrupt ending to one season due to the COVID pandemic, then the worst record in school history in the other. Off the court, Welch lost two UK teammates in a span of four months with the tragic deaths of Ben Jordan and Terrence Clarke earlier this year. Jordan was one of Welch’s best friends.
Listen to the entire conversation below to hear from a player we wish we had gotten to know better as he moves on to the next phase of his life, in coaching. KSR wishes Coach Welch the best as he pursues those dreams and we thank him for taking time out of his first morning after college to open up about UK Basketball’s hardships these past two years.
Have a listen.
