Perry has become a popular name in the transfer portal.
The Kentucky Wildcats had a roster primarily comprised of transfer players last season, but they did have a few local stars who stuck out their commitment and joined the program as freshmen. One of those young, well-known players was Travis Perry.
Perry, a 6-foot-2 combo guard from Eddyville, KY, was ranked as the 7th-best point guard in the country coming out of high school and was the best player from the state of Kentucky.
At the last minute, he decided to hit the transfer portal. The Cats have added numerous quality guards who would likely take the majority of backcourt minutes, leaving Perry without a large role on the team.
Let’s just say there has been some extreme interest in Perry, and John Calipari’s Arkansas Razorbacks are among the teams that are showing interest. The rival Tennessee Volunteers and Louisville Cardinals are also showing interest, per On3’s Joe Tipton.
Perry had his moments with the Cats in Mark Pope’s first season leading the program. He averaged 2.7 points per game and shot 31.3% from the field, besting that with his 32.1% from deep.
The Lyon County star has the potential to take his game to the next level, but it doesn’t appear that will be in Lexington. He was able to score a season-high 12 points and drain three triples against Alabama in a late-February road loss.
With the transfer portal now closed, the Cats will be looking to finalize their roster, especially as many new faces will be joining the program for the first time.
