Soon in Baton Rouge, it will be time to party like it’s 2019. Beginning this weekend, LSU will allow full capacity at its outdoor stadiums, no masks required, a school spokesman tells The Advocate. The change will go into effect for the Tigers’ baseball and softball series vs. Arkansas this weekend at Alex Box Stadium and Tiger Park.
Yesterday, Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards lifted the state’s mask mandate and capacity limitations for outdoor events. Previously, the state limited outdoor sporting events to 50% capacity. The Kentucky baseball and softball teams already played LSU this season, both series taking place in Lexington.
Earlier this week, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear announced that masks will no longer be required at outdoor events with 1,000 or fewer people. Masks are still required at outdoor events with more than 1,000 people and indoors. As of yesterday, 1.73 million Kentuckians are fully vaccinated, while 2.3 million have received their first dose. Beshear has said that once 2.5 million Kentuckians have gotten their first shot, he’ll consider lifting more restrictions.
Back to the Tigers. Why does today’s news not surprise me? Just check out Baylor-turned-LSU women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey’s entrance to her introductory press conference yesterday:
