When the Cats were about to take on Western Kentucky back on December 28th, Josie Gilvin was on the opposing side. She had Kenny Brooks nervous heading into that game.
“When we were about to play Western [Kentucky], obviously, you’re watching their team and who’s going to be a problem and who plays well. Josie was one that I was like, ‘Man, this kid can be a problem,’ Brooks told KSR in his interview on The Memorial Memo. “She’s just all over the place.”
“I don’t know if she has an NIL deal with Red Bull or whatever energy drinks, but she’s just a ball of energy — everywhere,” he continued. “She had a tremendous year for them. Very mature player. Plays in a magnitude that is going to really help us, give us some depth that we desire, and she shoots the basketball.”
We here at KSR have already dug into some of her film to give Big Blue Nation an idea of what Gilvin will bring to the table, but why not let the head coach tell us himself?
“She’s made herself into a really good three-point shooter,” Brooks explained. “I think she shot it at a high clip of like 41%. Then, her defensive tenacity — something that you can’t really teach. You just kind of let her go loose because she’s going to steal the basketball from somebody somehow, someway. I think she’s a great addition to what we’re going to try to accomplish next year.”
