Mark Pope on why Amari Williams’ game will translate with the Celtics

One of the BBN’s favorites.

Heading into last season, many among the BBN had no clue what to expect from Amari Williams.

Fast-forward to now, and the Drexel transfer was arguably the team’s best player and selected in the second round by the Boston Celtics.

Flashing his playmaking, rebounding, and defensive prowess during his time in Lexington, he is already showing flashes with the Celtics’ summer league team. That’s why Mark Pope thinks Williams will thrive at the next level.

When talking with Celtics insider Marc D’Amico recently, Pope has this to say about how his game will translate:

“His defensive rebounding is going to translate. It’s a perfect transition, I think that’s going to be from day one. He’s going to have a huge impact on the defensive glass.”

He continued:

“I think his ability to switch every ball screen is going to be something that has a massive impact. We ended up not having to switch as much as I thought we would early in the season, but his ability to switch and be smart and disciplined with his feet, he’s a terrific athlete. He won some games late for us.”

Pope also pointed to Williams’ ability to make plays with the ball in his hands, which is a key component for a big man at the next level.

Going to be fun to watch his career play out.
