Vandagriff was sacked five times against South Carolina on Saturday.
After a solid performance in Week 1, Kentucky Wildcats quarterback Brock Vandagriff struggled in the Wildcats 31-6 loss to South Carolina in Week 2.
Vandagriff was just 3-of-10 for 30 yards passing and was sacked five times against South Carolina’s strong defense. Pro Football Focus says that Kentucky’s offensive line allowed 12 quarterback hurries and 15 quarterback pressures, so that played a big part in his struggles.
Despite the performance, Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops stated his belief in Vandagriff and offensive line coach Eric Wolford.
“I have unbelievable confidence in coach Wolf, especially the way he recruits and the way he coaches,” said Stoops.
Wolford was Kentucky’s offensive line coach back in 2021, helping the “Big Blue Wall” become a finalist for the Joe Moore Award. The award is given to the best offensive line in College Football. Wolford then went to Alabama for two seasons before reuniting with Stoops in Lexington this season.
Stoops believes Vandagriff will be fine after Saturday’s performance, and he was quick to point out that his performance is not all on him. He praised his performance in Week 1 and said that Vandagriff is tough and resilient.
“We saw him play a complete game in Game 1, and we saw the way he’s capable of playing,” Stoops said. “We did not have a good game on Saturday. That’s not all, Brock. We didn’t even give him a chance half the time. Let’s be honest, so you can’t put that on him.
“Brock is a tough, resilient guy. We have to play well around him, and we’ve got to put him in a position to be successful. I have confidence he’ll get back and play well.”
Kentucky takes on No. 1 Georgia on Saturday at Kroger Field in Lexington. Kickoff is at 7:30 on ABC.
