He will head back to UK with some special hardware.
Incoming freshman guard Jasper Johnson has had quite the summer before starting his career with the Kentucky Wildcats.
The Kentucky native and his Team USA U19 teammates won gold in the FIBA U19 World Cup when they defeated Germany, 109-76.
Johnson played 16 minutes in the game, scoring five points while dishing out three assists and grabbing a couple of rebounds. His by-far most impressive stat, though, was the fact he was a team-high +26 when on the floor.
Team USA clinched its sixth FIBA U19 World Cup victory in nine years and ninth all-time.
Johnson will return to Lexington and join his new UK teammates with quite the experience to share.
It’s no secret that Kentucky has platoon-like depth for this upcoming season, and that means several more players than normal could often see their playing time eclipse double-digits.
Johnson is in the running to start as a freshman, but could be pushed by teammates Denzel Aberdeen and/or Kam Williams for the job.
He’ll look to start building chemistry with the other Wildcats immediately as the 2025-26 college basketball season inches closer by the day.
