There’s chatter of a new team for the CBS Sports Classic.
This year’s NFL Draft came to a close over the weekend, with 257 players hearing their names called over three days.
A couple of those players were former Kentucky Wildcats Maxwell Hairston and Deone Walker, and several of their teammates signed undrafted free agent deals Saturday night.
Here’s a full breakdown of the latest former Wildcats to join the NFL.
- Maxwell Hairston, Buffalo Bills (1st Round)
- Deone Walker, Buffalo Bills (4th Round)
- Eli Cox, Houston Texans (UDFA)
- Jamon Dumas-Johnson, Green Bay Packers (UDFA)
- Marques Cox, Denver Broncos (UDFA)
- Zion Childress, Dallas Cowboys (UDFA)
Turning the page to Kentucky basketball, there could be a new team in play to join the CBS Sports Classic.
North Carolina, Ohio State, UCLA, and the Wildcats meet each December at a neutral site for the event, with Kentucky’s opponent rotating each season.
According to Matt Jones of KSR, there is “chatter” around Lexington that one of the four teams could look to pull out of the CBS Sports Classic altogether.
This would open the door for a new team to enter the fold and Jones says that is could be either St. John’s or UConn. Regardless of what program enters the event, that team will be who Kentucky plays later this year.
Definitely something to keep an eye on, as a matchup with St. John’s could give Kentucky fans a much-desired Mark Pope-Rick Pitino matchup.
