Current Wildcat Otega Oweh praises Lexington SC’s retro look, which included support from Tony Delk, sparking calls for a Kentucky basketball throwback.
Lexington Sporting Club is making waves and not just in soccer circles, but among Kentucky basketball fans, too.
Thanks to their bold new “Icicles Kit,” inspired by the iconic UK basketball uniforms from the 1994-95 season.
The blue-and-white design, filled with retro flair, earned praise from current Kentucky Wildcats guard Otega Oweh, who shared his approval on social media.

That support has sparked a question across the Big Blue Nation: Could Kentucky basketball bring back the beloved icicle uniforms?
The original icicle threads, worn by stars like Tony Delk and Walter McCarty, are remembered fondly by longtime fans. Known for their sharp, jagged design across the shorts and jersey sides, the kits remain one of the most unique in program history.
Delk even helped model Lexington SC’s version, bridging past and present in a way that has fans buzzing.
Kentucky basketball head coach Mark Pope has already embraced Kentucky’s storied tradition and is focused on connecting with fans in meaningful ways. Reintroducing the icicle uniforms could be a creative move to energize fans and pay homage to one of the program’s most visually memorable eras.
With Oweh giving a stamp of approval and Pope eager to continue building something exciting, don’t be surprised if the Wildcats eventually rock a modern spin on the throwback icicles.
