Otega Oweh provides update on NBA Draft status ahead of Combine

Otega Oweh continues to go through the NBA Draft process ahead of the NBA Draft Combine, which begins on Sunday, May 11, in Chicago and runs through May 18.

On Thursday, the All-SEC guard was in Portland to participate in the Trail Blazers’ second round of pre-draft workouts. Oweh was one of the top names there, meeting with media members once his session wrapped up. He was asked about his draft status, and made it clear he’s not going through the process just for fun.

“I’m all in (on the NBA),” Oweh said, according to Aaron Fentress of Oregon Live. “I have one more year of (college) eligibility, but my goal is to play in the NBA, so I’m not doing this process one foot in, one foot out.”

That being said, when asked if he would only stay in the NBA Draft pool if he were guaranteed a first-round pick, Oweh didn’t exactly shoot that idea down.

“I wouldn’t say it’s completely false, but I believe I’m a first-round guy,” he said. “So, I’m just gonna go through these workouts, give it my all, and then when it’s all said and done, I’ll see where I’m at and then I’ll make that decision.”

Oweh, who has also worked out for the Celtics and Rockets, has until May 28 to make his stay-or-go decision. He is currently projected by most mocks as a late second-round pick or to go undrafted. Oweh led Kentucky in scoring as a junior last season at 16.2 points per game.
