You love to hear what the transfer from Miami (OH) is saying about this Kentucky team in early July.
Not only will the 2025-2026 Kentucky Wildcats roster be deep, experienced, and versatile, but there could be an air of extreme confidence amongst this team.
Take it from Miami (Ohio) transfer commit Reece Potter, a Lexington native and a potential vocal leader of this Wildcats team.
“We always say we’re the deepest team in the country,” Potter said during a recent interview with local media. “One through 15 guys, everybody can probably play anywhere in the country. Every single day, it’s a challenge. Every single day, everybody is trying to bring it fighting for spots. Our whole team can go.”
Whoa. Okay then. That’s the kind of confidence I can get behind. Potter starred at Lexington Catholic High School, where he grew up a Wildcats fan. He spent the first two seasons of his college career at Miami, and he’s now back home to be a part of the ultimate mission for Mark Pope’s second season as the head coach of his alma mater.
“My goal is to win No. 9,” he said. “Just trying to grow every single day.”
Potter gets it. He gets the expectations that come with playing at Kentucky. This Wildcats team is built to meet them.
Led by Otega Oweh, last year’s returning scorer and All-SEC Second Team member, the Wildcats are returning four players total from last year’s team and built one of the best transfer portal classes in the country this offseason, which includes Potter. Combined with a mix of high school recruits and international commits, this Wildcats team is poised to be really good this season.
The 7-foot-1 big man told reporters Monday that every day in practice feels like an SEC game. Considering what those games were like last season, that’s going to bode well for Kentucky this season. It’s also prompting Potter to make another proclamation about this Kentucky team.
“We’re gonna be the best defensive team in the country, I’d probably say,” Potter added. “It’s gonna be a battle, who’s gonna be the Defensive Player of the Year in the SEC, because it could probably be anybody (on our team).
Man, I can’t wait for November.
