The incoming Freshman has really impressed with team USA
Good morning, BBN!
Jasper Johnson has been so fun to watch with the U-19 team USA squad this year.
On July 4 in Lausanne, Switzerland, Team USA edged Canada 108–102 in the FIBA U19 World Cup quarterfinals, surviving their toughest test of the tournament
Kentucky freshman guard Jasper Johnson played 13 minutes off the bench and delivered eight points (3‑4 FG), two rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
He knocked down a couple of clutch buckets in the second half that helped steady the ship as Canada closed within five in the third quarter.
Team USA, appearing unsettled early after letting a 13‑point lead slip, rallied behind its more experienced stars. BYU’s AJ Dybantsa poured in 22 points and tallied four rebounds, three assists, and three steals, while Louisville’s Mikel Brown Jr. added 20 points and eight assists.
Kentucky recruit Tyran Stokes chipped in 10 points and three rebounds.
Johnson now averages 7.4 points in 14.6 minutes per game at 42.1 percent from deep. The win sends Team USA into a semifinal matchup Saturday at 2 p.m. ET against the New Zealand–Switzerland winner.
One victory more stands between them and a ninth FIBA U19 gold medal. Make sure you tune in!
