Thursday Headlines: Summer Walk-on Transfer Portal Edition

July 3, 2025 by A Sea Of Blue

A new transfer portal window is set to open for walk-ons

In the new world of college athletics following the House settlement, things are much different.

The revenue-sharing era got underway this week, and the House settlement is leading to a new walk-on transfer portal.

The NCAA Committee on Legislative Relief announced that it is issuing a waiver to allow athletes that programs place on the “Designated Student-Athlete” list to enter a newly-created transfer portal that opens on Monday, July 7 and runs through August 5.

Those players who are tagged by a school as a “Designated Student-Athlete” would have been cut from the roster if the roster limits proposed in the House settlement immediately went into play.

Players currently on scholarship will not be allowed to transfer in this window.

This transfer portal won’t play a huge role on rosters, but there will likely be a lot of players that take advantage of this decision and decide to look around at their options.

Who’s ready for the summer transfer portal?
