Top 30 prospect Hudson Greer talks Blue Blood interest, updates busy month

May 22, 2024 by Zags Blog

By CHARLIE PARENT

INDIANAPOLIS — Hudson Greer, a top-30 player in the class of 2025, has had a busy past few months, joining the coveted Montverde program, being recognized as one of the top performers at USA Basketball Camp, and earning interest from Blue Blood programs Kentucky and Duke.

In fact, the 6-foot-6 small forward out of Lake Travis (TX.) and JL3 Elite was sitting in Algebra 2 when Duke head coach Jon Scheyer texted him to make contact a little over a week ago.

“That was awesome,” he said after JL3’s game against Boo Williams Friday. “I was just sitting in the middle of Algebra 2, just trying to get my work done, and I get a text from Coach Scheyer.”

Greer is a athletic wing who plays above the rim and heralded for his three-way scoring ability. He has a fast pace to the game, running the floor well and nailing transition jumpers.

He says his style will be a factor during recruitment, and certain schools play into that.

“Just getting up and down [the floor],” he said. “That’s why I really like Arizona, Creighton, and Alabama; that’s why I like them a lot. [I] shoot the three a lot and get downhill and get my guys open.”

Kentucky and new head coach Mark Pope have also gotten involved with Greer, as Pope continues to target guys that fit his perimiter centric system.

Should an offer come from a Blue Blood, Greer wants himself to compete for a spot at a top program.

“I’m not looking for a college that’s like, ‘Hey, you’re gonna come in and start right away.’ I want to make my own path and earn my playing time,” he said. “Ultimately, I feel like that’s the best thing I can do for myself.”

He broke down the two schools further:

Kentucky: “When I hear Kentucky, I think of a great fan base, a great bloodline, and history there. Whether it was from [John] Calipari or [Richard] Pitino, things of that nature. Other than that, there’s just a really long line and lineage of great basketball players from there.”

Duke: “I feel like they did a really good job in the NCAA Tournament this year and obviously in his [Scheyer’s] first year they won an ACC Championship.

While he prepares for the college game, Greer will also have to get ready for a new level of high school basketball with Kevin Boyle and Montverde Academy.

“Me going to Monteverde, I feel like that was the best thing for me,” he said. “Just hearing the talks about how hard his practices are, how much of an amazing coach he is, and playing his guys in winning positions.”

“For instance, Liam McNeeley with UConn,” he concluded. “I could see myself filling that role for them, being a great shooter and underrated passer.”
