The Kentucky native is leaving Lexington.
Roster Watch for the Kentucky Wildcats will continue after all, as one of their current players is hitting the transfer portal.
According to 247 Sports’ Travis Branham, freshman guard Travis Perry is entering the portal. So for now, Perry will end his UK career after just one season in Lexington.
In 31 games (four starts), the 6-foot-1, 188-pound Lyon County product averaged 2.7 points on 31.3% shooting (32.1% on 3s), 0.8 rebounds, 0.6 assists, and 0.4 steals in 9.8 minutes a game.
To be frank, Perry would have been a good candidate for a redshirt season, but that was never happening, given that he was already a Bluegrass legend after becoming the state’s all-time scorer in high school basketball. And then there was the onslaught of injuries that forced Perry to go from a reserve who rarely played to being a starter for several SEC contests.
Those injuries and needing guys like Perry to play when they weren’t ready for significant minutes is a big reason why Kentucky has been so active in the transfer portal in an attempt to ensure depth is not an issue next season.
Unfortunately, that meant getting several guys who will be ahead of Perry next season, so he clearly feels it’s best to move on for a bigger role, possibly at a mid-major school.
Still, this comes as a major surprise, as Perry was viewed as a near-lock to return to the roster. He even indicated he planned to return following Kentucky’s season-ending loss to Tennessee, and all the buzz since then was that Perry would ultimately return for his sophomore campaign.
With this defection, Kentucky will now likely attempt to add one more transfer or high school recruit to the 2025-26 basketball roster.
Here’s to hoping Perry is able to find the best situation possible for the rest of his hoops career!
